The SIFOR group is a company specializing in the sisal industry. It is composed of several entities specialized in all stages of sisal transformation, from plantations to our processing plant in Fort Dauphin.
Sisal plays a key role in the economic dynamism and history of southern Madagascar. As an essential source of income for many families, its cultivation enables inhabitants to meet their daily needs. The production and processing of sisal also generate jobs, thus helping to strengthen the local economy. Thanks to its ability to thrive in the arid and semi-arid conditions of the south, sisal stands out as a sustainable crop, well-suited to the unique characteristics of this region, where other crops might not grow.
In the sisal industry, the SIFOR group is the only group to have its own processing plant, allowing us to ensure end-to-end quality control for the production of raw products in bales and our finished products. The plantations harvest sisal and press it into bales weighing from 100 to 225 kg using hydraulic presses. The spinning mill then transforms the fiber into different types of twine (thickness, length, etc.) to meet the needs of clients in both national and international markets.
The group is based on an organized structure that integrates two plantations, SADP and SSM, and a spinning mill at SIFOR. The two main plantations are located along the Mandrare River in the southeastern region of Madagascar:
- The Société Agricole de Pechpeyrou (SADP)
- The Société du Sisal Malgache (SSM), located near the town of Amboasary
These two plantations are the driving forces behind the production of our raw sisal. Below is a photo overview of the production cycle:
